The designation “Type 20” originates from a directive of the War Ministry, which required all its units to be equipped with chronographs with the flyback function. This reliable and fast function allowed sailors and pilots to make accurate course changes. Moreover, it was essential to be able to calculate the longitudes with accuracy to avoid any error of trajectory or objective.
